RM of Sliding Hills’s story
The Rural Municipality of Sliding Hills No. 273 incorporated as a rural municipality on January 1, 1913. Its office is in Mikado, and the municipality is governed by an elected council and an appointed administrator.
The area's early history is preserved in three heritage buildings, all churches tied to Ukrainian settlers. Holy Assumption St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, also known as the Boychuk Church, was constructed in 1902 and officially opened in 1927. It still hosts an annual service attended by descendants of the area's early immigrants.
St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church was built in 1924 and has a separate bell tower. The Greek Catholic Church of Transfiguration, also called the Dneiper Catholic Church, followed in 1931 and was built in a Byzantine cruciform style. Both are regarded as historically significant to the community.
